Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto confirmed on Wednesday his resignation from his party Aksyon Demokratiko. “Since I resigned from Aksyon Demokratiko last July, I never made any announcement. I respected party decisions while I was a member, but for reasons stated in the letter, I decided to resign after the elections,” Sotto said, posting a copy of his resignation letter.

In the letter, Sotto says that “recent events” have made it clear that they are “no longer a group of individuals with similar political goals and ideals”, which defeated the purpose of a political party.

Aksyon Demokratiko Chairman Ernest Ramel on Wednesday, Nov. 2, said the political party was saddened by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto’s resignation.

“He is one [of] the inspirations of the party to be better and we were hoping that he will be the future of Aksyon Demokratiko,” Ramel said in a statement.

“However, the party is not lacking in talent and strong young future leaders of this country that were elected last 2022 and those who also did not make it but had shown exceptional leadership abilities,” he added.
