MANILA, Philippines — On Wednesday, Lizette Cabrera and her partner Priscilla Hon defeated Leylah Fernandez and Erin Routliffe 6-3, 6-1 in the second round of the Australian Open Women’s Doubles event.
Cabrera and Hon were able to dispatch Fernandez, a Filipino, and Routliffe in just 59 minutes, advancing to the Round of 32.
In the first set, the Australians swung the tide to their favor, winning four of the last five games to take a 6-3 lead.
They were boosted by this in the second half, when they surged out to a 4-0 lead.
Despite the fact that Fernandez and Routliffe held their serve in Game Five to win the match 1-4, Cabrera and Hon won back-to-back games to claim the match and move on.
Cabrera has reached Round Two of the Australian Open’s women’s doubles competition for the second time.
Cabrera failed to qualify for the main draw in singles after falling in the second round of qualifying.
Fernandez, on the other hand, lost 6-4, 6-2 against Maddison Inglis in the first round of women’s singles.
Cabrera’s doubles partner in Melbourne last year was Inglis.
