Ester Chavez, TV and movie actress and Queen of Filipino radio drama passed away at 93. She started her radio career at 17 and was still doing radio once a week at the age of 87.
It gave her, purpose and delight to regale her audience. Her voice recognizable by generations of radio listeners. She was a star in Tia Dely’s daily radio drama. In retirement, she was a whip.
Ester’s Aling Chayong character became popular among the Filipino masses in the popular radio drama program “Ilaw ng Tahanan.”
Ester made her final curtain call on May 31, 2021.
From radio, Ester crossed over into the world of television and film. The films “Kaya Kong Abutin Ang Langit,” Kung Mahawi Man Ang Ulap and “Maging Sino Ka Man” were some of Ester’s projects when she was still active.
