Online selling has been a trend especially the with these lockdowns. Sellers sell their products by posting it online for the netizens to see, in search for a potential buyer.
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reminds those sellers who are not posting the price of their products. They are instead, asking those buyers to send a personal message (PM) for them to know the price.
“HINDI COOL ang PM SENT sa online selling! Gawing smooth ang iyong transaction kaya ilagay na ang presyo ng produktong binebenta mo.
“Tandaan! Nakasaad sa RA 7394 o Consumer Act of the Philippines na unlawful ang pagbebenta ng kahit na anong produkto na walang karampatang price tag, label or marking ng presyo ng produkto.” DTI Sultan Kudarat wrote on captions.
“May specific provision doon [sa Price Act] na magiging profiteering siya kung ang produkto ay walang nakakabit na price tag,” Ruth Castelo said, Trade Undersecretary, in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV.
According to the Republic Act No. 7581 or the Price Act, selling products without price tag can be counted as an evidence of profiteering.
“Kapag in-advertise or you offer it for sale tapos walang price tag, that’s profiteering,” she added.
“Tulad din ng pagbenta sa regular groceries or sa shelves ay may price tag. So dapat ito rin ay naka-tamang presyo. Hindi puwede yung nakuwento ninyo na piso or P12345, ganyan. Hindi puwede yon. Dapat ‘yung actual price ang i-indicate doon,” Ramon Lopez, Trade Secretary, told the GMA News.
This has gained a lot of reactions from the netizens. Some claims that this was their sales technique that can hell improve their business. This is also a way of protecting the integrity of the sellers, who intends to sell it in a higher value, by hiding the price.
Netizens say that this post will serve as a warning to online sellers, so that they will reveal the prices publicly.
