The government has implemented an Enhanced Community Quarantine or ECQ, to lessen the virus contagion to the country. In Manila’s first district know as Tondo 1, the district had 83 active cases of COVID-19 and 231 people are suspected of having the virus. Seven residents have recovered and 12 have died from the disease.
Tondo 1 is placed on a 48-hour total lockdown starting today, Sunday May 3, to tame the spread of virus in the City. The Manila Mayor “Isko Moreno” Domagoso signed the Executive Order No. 22 on Thursday ordering the shutdown of Tondo 1 district from 5 a.m. on May 3 up to 5 a.m. on May 5. The executive order states that the residents should stay at home while essential workers, such as health workers, pharmacy workers, military workers, and utility services workers are allowed to go outside their homes.
“The shutdown aims to contain the spread and mitigate any adverse effects of COVID-19 in the district,” Mayor Isko Moreno stated. The hard lockdown includes Tondo barangays 1 up to 146.
Non-residents of Tondo 1 are allowed to pass the area, provided they are in the list of the Authorized Persons Outside Residence identified by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Diseases.
Mayor Isko Moreno stated that the early announcement of the lockdown is for the Manila local government unit to finish the distribution of food packs for the Tondo 1 residents.
