Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases exceed 7,192, President Duterte Extend Lockdown in ‘high-risk’ Areas

The number of novel coronavirus infections in the country exceeds 7,192 as of April 24, 2020, President Duterte Extend Lockdown in ‘high-risk’ Areas to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Philippines is currently battling a pandemic – the 2019 novel coronavirus. Officially called as COVID-19, the said disease can spread rapidly. It was first recorded in China where it prompted authorities to lock down Wuhan due to its outbreak.  

As of 4PM today, April 24, 2020, the Department of Health reports 211 new cases (PH6982-PH7192) of COVID-19. The total number of cases in the country is now at 7,192. DOH also announces 40 new recoveries. This brings the total number of recoveries to 762. 

The government’s coronavirus task force recommends to extends the ECQ until May 15, 2020. President Rodrigo Duterte approved the recommendation, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, provinces of Pangasinan, Benguet, Albay, and the islands of Mindoro and Catanduanes until May 15. 

In Visayas & Mindanao, Cebu province, the islands of Panay, provinces of Davao Del Norte and Davao City will be also placed under ECQ. 

Worldwide, there have been 2.71 million people infected with COVID-19, 743K has been recovered and 191, 000 deaths.
