To help our beloved teachers, providing them conducive place like faculty room is very important to plan and prepare well for their lessons and to relax from long period of teaching.

However, the situation in Bacoor National High School in Cavite was unfortunate, because of the lack of classrooms, teachers had no choice but to vacate their faculty rooms since their offices will be used as classrooms. As for the teachers’ faculty room, they’re forced to move into an old comfort room, which is obviously uncomfortable for the teachers.

DepEd officials said current facilities were prepared to handle this year, are 27.8 million students. There were, however, 66,050 additional classrooms.

The teachers are also the ones, who need to provide the money for the repair costs. “Kulang na nga ang sweldo gagastusan pa ang sana ay maayos na faculty room. Kaya next time pag may parent na naghanap sa teacher ang isasagot: Hanapin nyo po sa mga ilalim ng hagdan o CR,” Maricel Herrera, one of the teachers said.

Maricel Herrera is the president of the teachers’ association in Bacoor National High School and a member of the militant group Alliance of Concerned Teachers.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones said they will look into this report but considered it an isolated case in an interview with CNN Philippines.
