The death penalty is not contradictory to his Christian faith, constitutionally and Biblically it is legal, he said, citing Roman 13:1 to 7 that among others states that “the authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted”.

Pacquiao, who was in Bacolod for the inaugurationof the city officials led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, said that , while at present, the death penalty is not allowed by law, the Constitution allows legislation to be passed for its imposition for compelling reasons involving heinous crimes.

The death penalty is needed to put a stop to the proliferation of illegal drugs in the philippines that has triggered numerous heinous crimes from murders to rape, Paquiao said.
