Celebrating the second anniversary of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez no expressed his regret to President Aquino for delivering unpleasant statements regarding the government’s slow response in the aftereffects of the calamity. In an honorary ceremony held at Tacloban Astrodome, Romualdez thanked the president for the support he has given to the city after Yolanda hit the land. Though the two had exchanged criticism after the super typhoon devastated Visayas two years prior, he was still pleased for the help coming from Aquino. The disaster killed more than 6,000 people, ravaged communities, and left thousands of the survivors homeless. This outcome had greatly affected both the local and national government which left them astounded by the terrible misfortune.
The Mayor then explained why they had strong words against Aquino because of how they were deeply pained of what the typhoon has done to them. Recalling also of how the Astrodome became the refuge for the residents that saved their lives. Romualdez also honored the men, women and children who struggled but didn’t survived and took the chance to thank those people who relayed their help to Tacloban. Stating that the memorial be the mark for the productivity of the coming and a reminder that bringing their best and love for one another is their duty to God and to the people.
