A 30-year-old Hawksbill Turtle found weak and wounded in Toledo City, Cebu at Barangay Cato. And it is confirmed dead in University of San Carlos Marine Station or USC-MRS on Tuesday in Lapu Lapu.
The turtle is locally known as “Pawikan” found by the resident in the shore with wounds in its head and neck on Monday.
The Community Environment and Natural Resources of Toledo was immediate rescue the said Pawikan.
The Pawikan was bought to USC-MRS for its medical assistance and to rest but on the following day the pawikan had died.
In an interview, Renier Manligro of the DENR Protected Areas and Wildlife Division, the turtle has stabbed in the neck and its head was beaten until it almost cracked, and that this might have caused of Pawikan’s Death.
The veterinarian in the bureau of fisheries and aquatic resources in region 7 will examine the 73 cm length and 71 cm width Pawikan to find out of about the cause of its death. Its body will be preserved so that it can be used in educating the public on how to take care the turtles.
Eddie Liamedo, Public Information Officer of DENR Regional Office are already investigating the incident so that, the case can be filed against to the suspect.
To those who responsible of its death of Pawikan will be pay P200,000 and face not less 10 years of imprisonment.
