Remembering the 28th anniversary of EDSA Revolution, its essence and contribution to the Filipino People but the question is Ferdinand Marcos the Best President Ever? The late president makes a trending topic on social media and networking sites last February 25, 2014 because of the netizens praising him as the best president ever in the Philippine history.
For almost 20 years of reigning as president, Marcos administration was marked in the field corruption, political repression, human rights violation and freedom to express via media.
This marking was done due to the declaration of Martial Law in 1972 where the said declaration nullify the 1935 constitution, dissolve the Congress and put all the power of governance in his hands with similarity to dictatorship.
The said Law empowers him to make automatic Presidential Decrees without proper ratification in the Congress and issue arrest to those entities opposing his administration.
According to Amnesty International almost 50,000 people where arrested and deprived from their human rights for just only three years during Martial Law. Almost 3,000 people murdered, 35,000 tortured cases and 70,000 incarcerations including the Akbayan Partylist.
The said time the press are prohibited to release negative comment’s about the Marcos regime or they will be abducted and put to prison.
But this event does not stop the Filipino people to stay silent but they stood up to fight for their right some of them conducted a news barrage, published some propaganda revealing the corruption and some other initiated hunger strike like the late Senator Ninoy Aquino who have underwent a hunger strike for 40 days.
The said EDSA revolution must be remembered also because it becomes a part of the important history to remember of the Filipino people in the country.
