12 Years A Slave dominates BAFTA Awards 2014 held in London UK, the story tells about the journey and struggle of a man sold into slavery, this masterpiece movie was directed by Steve Mc Queen starring Chiwetel Ejiofor who portrays a free black man that is kidnapped and enslaved for 12 years in United States and also grabs the Best Actor Award.
The story is based on Solomon Northup fight to be a free man and also the author of the book which is the current title of the movie. The film was crowned Best Film.
During the Mc queen speech he give’s gratitude to her mother and to let people know that even today slavery is still present. It serve’s as an eye opener to all the people in the world.
He added “There are 21 million people in slavery as we sit here,”I just hope 150 years from now our ambivalence will not allow another film-maker to make this film.”
The said film fights against the crime comedy film American Hustle, Pirate Drama Captain Philips, space sci-fi thriller Gravity and Philomena, the tale of an Irishwoman searching for a son taken by nuns.
Jennifer Lawrence also won the Best Supporting Actress award in American Hustle together with Barkhad Abdi as Best Supporting Actor in Captain Philips.
Even though Mc Queen movie hit the Best Film award it still miss the Best Director Award that goes to Mexican Alfonso Cuaron forGravity.
